FORAGE APP – PRIVACY POLICY

This is the privacy policy of Satokausi Media Oy for the Forage mobile application, in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Created 15.7.2026. Last updated 15.7.2026.

4. Legal Basis and Purposes of Processing

Personal data is processed on the basis of the contract between the user and Satokausi Media Oy (providing the App, the user account and subscriptions), the user’s separate explicit consent, or legal obligations.

  • Providing the App and its features, including your account and saved markings – performance of a contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
  • Managing subscriptions and payments – performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) and legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c)).
  • Analytics and product development – consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) where required, otherwise legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)).
  • Sending push notifications about the App, such as seasonal reminders and feature updates – consent (Art. 6(1)(a)). You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.
  • Communication about the App, such as tips and feature updates – consent (Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw consent at any time via the unsubscribe link in each message.

5. Data We Collect

5.1 Data you provide

  • Account information: name and the email address or credential used for sign-in (email, Google or Apple sign-in).
  • Location markings you save in the App: time, coordinates, selected map layer (e.g. bilberry) and marking type. Markings are linked to your account and private to you.
  • Messages you send to our support.

5.2 Data collected automatically

  • Usage and interaction data and device identifiers, collected through analytics to understand how the App is used and to improve it.
  • Subscription status and purchase events. Your payment card details are processed by Apple or Google, not by us.
  • A push notification token, if you allow notifications. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.

5.3 Location data

Your real-time position is processed only on your device to show your location on the map. It is not stored on our servers or shared with third parties. Only the location markings you actively save are stored on our servers, linked to your account. You can view, edit and delete your markings in the App at any time.

6. Processors and Disclosures

We use the following service providers to operate the App:

Google Firebase (Google LLC): user authentication, data storage and push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging). https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy

RevenueCat, Inc.: subscription management. https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy

Aptabase: privacy-friendly, anonymised product analytics. https://aptabase.com/legal/privacy

Klaviyo, Inc.: email platform, used to send app-related communications to users who have consented to receive them. https://www.klaviyo.com/legal/privacy-notice

Data may also be disclosed to authorities where required by law.

7. Transfers Outside the EU/EEA

Some of our service providers process data in the United States. Transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal data for as long as your account exists or as needed to provide the App. When you delete your account, your account data and saved markings are permanently deleted. Some data may be retained longer where required by law (for example, accounting records).

9. Data Security

Data is processed carefully and protected with appropriate technical and organisational measures. Access to personal data is limited to personnel who need it for their work.

10. Your Rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Have inaccurate data corrected.
  • Have your data deleted (“right to be forgotten”), including your account, contact details and all saved markings.
  • Restrict or object to processing, and receive your data in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.

You can delete your markings in the App and delete your entire account in the App’s settings. You can also request deletion or exercise any of your rights by emailing sami@forage.living. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority; in Finland this is the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi).

11. Children

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this privacy policy. The current version is always available in the App and on our website. Material changes will be communicated in the App.
